Taco ‘bout a 90s throwback

There’s nothing us Millennials love more than our nostalgia, am I right? The Taco Bell we experienced in the 90s, with geometric shapes in bright shades of purple and teal, was something down right magical. But the old tummy just doesn’t process the fast food like it used to. Enter this stomach-friendly taco seasoning that you can make from scratch. So much flavor with none of that garlic-induced pain. I’ve sprinkled this flavor dust on ground turkey for a more traditional feeling Tex-Mex taco, but I’ve also added it to black beans for a bean-y taco delight and I’ve added it to some minced broccoli for a green take on taco night. So put on your favorite 90s show and have a delicious throwback fiesta.

Here’s what you’ll need to make it.

And here’s what the finished product looks like at my house. Yours should look similar.

I used the seasoning with 1 pound of ground turkey to make these delicious tacos.

Xperimental Taco Seasoning

Ingredients

2 Tbsp ancho chili powder

1 Tbsp ground cumin

1 Tbsp ground flax seed

1 1/2 tsp paprika

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp cayenne (go up to 1 tsp if you’re feeling spicy)

1/2 tsp cinnamon

Directions

Mix everything in your favorite bowl, jar, etc. This makes enough mix to to nicely season ~1 lb of your favorite filling: so sprinkle over your precooked ground meat of choice, bean of choice, minced broccoli, or whatever else you think needs a little taco zest.
